Nidhi Vaid : USING
DESIGN GUIDELINES TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF USERS EXPERIENCE AT
URBAN TRANSIT STATIONS
The objective of the study is to develop guidelines for the design
of median train stations and their
surrounding environments based on a visual audit and case study
research in Oak Park, Illinois
The research involves review of the existing guidelines and recommendations
for the design of median train stations. The objective is to find
relevant case studies to enable a comprehensive understanding
of the physical setting, design limitations and alternative solutions
in the design of train stations.
In particular, the focus of the research is to develop guidelines
to mitigate the effects of harsh weather conditions and noise
from the expressway and enhance the physical environment in and
around the stations.
The end results will essentially be design ideas about good station
environments and the demonstration of those ideas. The study is
expected to result in the visual interpretation and illustration
of alternative design solutions to enhance CTA’s existing
median station environments and future construction.
Visual representation of the design guidelines and recommendations
that can be used by CTA in future, drawing upon best practices
examples and case studies. The study is aimed at using various
visualization techniques to represent the physical environment
of median train stations.
