Skills Workshop: Coordinate systems in spatial analysis
Ever wonder if you’re using coordinate systems right? They matter, because they affect your spatial analysis results. This workshop is designed for anyone who uses GIS or spatial methods but never got formal training in coordinate systems or projections. We’ll demystify coordinate systems, walk through common projection pitfalls, and discuss the NSRS modernization taking effect next year (new datum drop!) - what’s changing, and how to update your data for improved accuracy. ArcGIS-focused, but applicable to other spatial data environments
The Urban Data Visualization Lab (UDVL) and the Daley Library invite UIC students to showcase their work at the GIS Day 2025 Student Poster Competition. This session highlights student research and creative projects that use GIS and spatial analysis, providing an opportunity to share work with the campus community and geospatial professionals across Chicago.Students may present work from class projects, independent studies, theses, or early-stage research, including collaborative work. The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students from all departments and programs. Top posters will be awarded, and first prize is Chicago Architecture Center boat tour tickets!
