How to access ArcGIS at UIC

ArcGIS Access Instructions

Installing ArcGIS Pro on Personal Computers

If you have a Windows* computer, you can download ArcGIS Pro for free from the U of I Webstore and install it on your computer.

Once installed, select the option to sign in with “Your ArcGIS Organization’s URL,” then enter univofillinois. Proceed to sign in with your UIC NetID and password. See full sign-in instructions here.

For tech support regarding the UIC Webstore, please contact the Webstore support team about any software-related issues, including installation, activation, licensing, or replenishing ArcGIS credits. Don’t be deterred by the contact form; this is how to contact them. It automatically generates a support request ticket, and they usually respond within one day.

*For Mac users: ArcGIS only runs on the Windows operating system. There are ways to install Windows on a partition on your Mac computer using Parallels Desktop. Some students find the convenience of Parallels worth the cost; however, we do not provide support for this.

Using ArcGIS Pro in the Computer Labs

ArcGIS Pro is installed on all campus computer labs and other Windows computers around campus. The version is updated at the beginning of each semester and remains that version until the end of the semester. Find lab locations and more information here.

The CUPPA Librarian, Benjamin Aldred, is available for assistance when using ArcGIS Pro on Library computers and can also answer any other questions.

The CUPPA Hall Computer labs also have ArcGIS Pro installed.

  • Students enrolled in CUPPA Courses have 24/7 access to the UDVL computer lab on the 1st floor of CUPPA Hall, otherwise known as the “Student Computer Exerbs.” Please reference this map for location specifics. Visit the nearby UDVL Help Desk during open hours for any assistance needed.
  • The UPP Computer Lab on the 2nd floor of CUPPA Hall provides 24/7 access for MUPPs and 9 am-5 pm access for non-MUPPs.

Using ArcGIS Pro in the Virtual Lab

ArcGIS Pro is installed in the virtual lab. We recommend using the desktop client, not the browser. Find out more here.

ArcGIS Online

ESRI has also created an online platform that integrates with ArcGIS Pro. However, this platform does not provide the full analytical capabilities of ArcGIS Pro, so it is recommended that any spatial analysis be performed using ArcGIS Pro. ArcGIS Online is applicable when integrating with ArcGIS Pro to create visual presentations such as Storymaps and Web Apps.

ArcGIS Online can be accessed by signing in using your UIC NetID and password at https://univofillinois.maps.arcgis.com/.
